Dakota Water Treatment has expertly trained and experienced Private Well Treatment Specialists ready to assist you with your problem well water. You may be experiencing smelly, rotten egg, sulfur odor to your water, iron and rust stains in your toilets, tubs and laundry or a black slimy film called manganese. If so, Dakota Water Treatment has the solution. We have been treating private well water for nearly 20 years. Dakota Water can even take care of iron problems outside of your home with our Aqua Mag system. This takes care of rust stains on your sidewalks, driveway and house.

Well water can be a challenge. Some companies will try to sell you on a fancy water softener in Minnesota and when that doesn't work they will keep recommending more and more equipment until you finally say enough and call us! Well water treatment can be expensive so you want to get it right the first time. There no greater necessity than clean, safe water!

What makes Dakota Water Treatment different? We specialize in problem water. All of our well systems are designed and custom ordered for your specific water concerns. Visit our Iron and well treatment page for examples. Franchise water treatment companies may have only one choice for treating well water...a water softener. Water softeners are designed to remove calcium and magnesium NOT Iron and manganese! Also, well water is raw unfiltered water. Our Minnesota water treatment has a variety of pre-filtration options to suit every water type and budget. By pre-filtering the raw water and removing the sand and debris you greatly increase the longevity and performance of your water softener and or well treatment equipment. If the sales person you are considering purchasing equipment from does not mention some type of pre-filtration, be advised they are not experienced in treating well water!

Will I need an Iron filter? You may. Dakota Water would draw a sample of your well water and determine the ppm of iron present. If there is a measurable amount of iron an iron filter would most likely be recommended. We have many styles and sizes available.

Well Water Testing. If you have concerns about your drinking water in Minnesota the best thing is to have it tested. You can bring us a sample or we can come to your home and test it for you. The test we provide is for iron, iron bacteria, tannins and manganese. If you have concerns beyond these tests, you can call your county and they will advise you on how to draw a sample for lab testing. Dakota County and Scott County do a coliform bacteria and nitrate test for around $30. If it is detected that you have high levels of bacteria or other unwanted contaminants we have systems like Reverse Osmosis or whole house carbon filters that take care of the problem.

Although most of our business comes from homeowners in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Credit River, Eagan, Elko, Farmington, Inver Grove, Lakeville, New Market, Prior Lake, Rosemount, Savage, and Shakopee we do service the majority of the Twin Cities Metro Area. Below is a more expansive list.

Do you have a low salt using softener?
Yes. We have the Millennium water softening system that utilizes soft water brine therefore, it uses 30% less water and 30% less salt than a conventional water softener. The Millennium water softener by Clack has the newest, most innovative technology making it  the industries most efficient salt saving water softener on the market.

Do you have salt free systems?
No. You will find companies on the Internet that claim salt free water softeners and magnets are the way to go. The way a salt free system works is an electrode clamps onto your pipe.  The electrode sends out a current that allows hard water to flow freely through your pipes without corrosion.  Down side is you still have the undesirable hard water scale and calcium residue building up on you skin, hair, appliances, water heater and fixtures.

Why can't I find salt free systems in this area?
Easy, because they don't work.  Minnesota aquifer water is extremely hard and the effects of the hard water go beyond the damage to your plumbing.

Can I use Potassium chloride instead of Solar Salt?
Yes.  Any of our systems can use potassium in place of sodium.  Be sure to let the installer know that you are going to use potassium so that your softener can be programmed accordingly.

What makes your softeners different than the ones I see at Sears, Home Depot and other box stores?
Dakota Water Treatment is a water treatment dealership. We have access to professional high performance brands and equipment that plumbers and department stores do not. We also have specialized training in the programming and set-up of our products so you get the full benefit of the innovative, cost saving technology.

You may have noticed we do not carry an "all in one" softener like those you see at department stores.  This is because there is an advantage to keeping the salt tank and the water softener seperate. To mention a few, two tank systems take up less physical space, the salt tank is repositionable so if you ever want to clean it or work on the water heater or change the furnace filter, our salt tank can simply be moved out of the way!  We have special sized salt tanks for tight spaces such as town home installations.  Also, all of our softeners are maintenance free.   Just google the department store models and you willl see all kinds advise and complaints about cleaning out the ports and venturi to error codes and so forth.

With the all in one models you are recommended to use pellet salt.  With two tank style water softeners you would be using solar crystals which are pure salt and do not leave behind a residue or paste like build-up .

Professional water softeners typically come with longer manufactorer warranties.  This is because they are built better and are designed to last llonger.

The landfills are full of consumer waste and poorly manufactored products.
You might spend a little more money on a quality product. But isn't it worth it in the end?

We get that buying a water softener is not as much fun as buying a shiny new appliance or a big screen tv...so make an informed decision so you only have to do it once!  A good softener with proper care will give your family many years of trouble free operation and clean softened water!
